RECORD ENTRY FOR WILLS WRITING AWARDS

Entries for the 17th annual Wills Writing Awards closed on Saturday 28 February with a record entry, by far.

Entries totalled 169, of which 64 in the under 26 category, 44 in the under 19 category, and 61 in the under 15 category. The previous record was 132, in 1995 and 2007. Last year’s total was 130.

The expected timetable is as follows:

•   By Tuesday 10 March, entrants will learn whether or not they have been shortlisted.
•   By Tuesday 24 March, those shortlisted will learn, confidentially, whether or not they are winner or runner-up in their category.
•   On Wednesday 15 April, the results will be publicly announced and the awards presented at Newmarket Racecourse.
