About the 2017 Awards

  • There are four writing Awards - for under 26s, under 18s, under 15s and under 12s.
  • The Awards are for fine writing (fact or fiction) around a horseracing theme.
  • Quality of writing is key; a detailed knowledge of horseracing is unnecessary.
  • The permissible wordcounts are 800-1,000 (under 26/18s), 500-600 (under 15s) and 200-500 (under 12s).
  • Schools should not submit more than six entries per class.
  • Prizes total almost £3,000 cash plus the opportunity (for some) to be published in the racing press and to have work experience at the Racing Post.
  • All winners receive a trophy.
  • In the Under 18, 15 and 12 categories, there is a trophy for the winning school.
